There are many makes of vacuum cleaners available to purchase today. However, there is one brand that has been around for more than 90 years and which today is still very popular with homeowners the world over. Electrolux vacuum cleaners manufactured by Aerus have since the beginning maintained its commitment to ensure that when used the air in the home is clean as possible.

Along with providing the more conventional styles of upright cleaners today Electrolux now offer a good range of cylinder models. So no matter what size home you live in you are sure to find one that is suitable. Plus the technology known as cyclonic suction used in these machines ensures that the power remains at its optimum no matter how much the vacuum is used.

Also another reason why more than 50 million homes worldwide have chosen Electrolux vacuum cleaners over other makes is down to the filtration system they are fitted with. This is one of the most comprehensive of all systems for filter air ensuring that as many of the dust and debris articles in the air are caught and trapped in it. So if you want a vacuum cleaner that will help to reduce the chances of your allergy problems becoming worse these are the type to consider.

So what sorts of vacuum cleaners does Electrolux now offer? Below we take a look at some of the various models this company now produces.

1. EL8502A Versatility HEPA Bagless Vacuum Cleaner

This is one of the company’s upright models and has the attachments to go with it that not only allows the floors to be cleaned but all other parts of the home as well even the ceilings. As this machine is made from high impact plastics it is built to last and the 12 amp motor is more than capable of carrying out the work needed to keep ones home looking clean.

The HEPA filtration system on this machine also has anti odor properties so eliminates the smells created by your pets. This machine is capable of capturing around 99.97% of all pet dander along with mold, pollen and dust mites.

2.	Twin Clean Bagless Canister Vacuum Cleaner With Pet Kit

As these Electrolux vacuum cleaners don’t have bags then you only have to concern yourself with empty the dust cup instead. It is a simple case of removing it from the main part of the cleaner to then place over a bin bag. Once this is done press a button the bottom opens up and all debris, dust and pet dander collected falls directly into it.

Another benefit to owning this type of vacuum cleaner is the innovative filtration system it is fitted with. This in fact contains a self cleaning filter which no longer do you need to spend time having to remove and then clean it for yourself. Plus as with many of the other makes of Electrolux vacuum cleaners or other lightweight vacuum cleaners on the market today this one is fitted with HEPA filters so of course reducing the risk of allergy attacks occurring.

After deciding on whether to purchase an upright or cylinder vacuum cleaner, then there are certain other features that need to be decided upon next. One of the most important of these is the kind of vacuum cleaner filters it has installed.

As you will soon discover through reading this article there are number of different options available to you. Some are much more sophisticated than others and some may prove more effective than others. Ideally you want filters that can remove as much dust and particles from the air that have escaped into it as possible.

So what forms of filters do vacuum cleaners now come with? Below we take a look at the various kinds.

1.	Stage Filters – These as the name suggests are designed to remove dust from the area through a number of different stages. Those vacuum cleaners fitted with these forms of filters will be comprised of four stages. These are a double skinned bag, a filter placed between the motor and the bag and then one more filter. However, there are some vacuum cleaners that contain seven of these stages rather than four.

2.	Lifetime Filters – This particular filter is designed to last as long as the vacuum does without the need for it to ever be changed. In most cases these types of vacuum cleaner filters generally only have a lifespan of between 7 and 10 years.

3.	S-Class or HEPA Filters – For anyone who suffers from any form of allergies then obtaining a vacuum with this form of filter installed is worth considering investing in. These filters have been designed to capture even the smallest particles in the air that can cause an allergy attack to occur.

4.	Charcoal Filters – For those who own pets the vacuum cleaners that are fitted with this kind of filter should be considered purchasing. Within the filtration system there is a layer of charcoal that helps to remove unpleasant odors from the air caused by your pet’s fur when it is allowed to lie around. If you can choose one that not only include these but HEPA filters as well as they can prevent allergy problems also.

When looking at the various types of filtration systems that vacuum cleaners come with there are certain factors you need to take into consideration. Yes you want a system that can remove as many dust particles from the air as possible. But you also need one that won’t allow any of these particles entering into the cleaner itself and which could cause damage to important mechanical parts. So that at some later stage you may have to replace these parts or replace the vacuum cleaner altogether.

Also when deciding on what sort of vacuum cleaner filters yours should be fitted with take into consideration how often they need replacing. If they need to be replaced regularly then think about factoring in the cost of doing so when considering purchasing regular or lightweight vacuum cleaners where this needs to be done. It may be much better to spend money on a more expensive model that allows you to remove and clean the filter instead of completely replacing it.

Do you live in a small home or want a vacuum cleaner that you can use for those areas of the house that are difficult to reach?

Then it is worth considering investing some money in a backpack vacuum cleaner available today. All you do is place this on your back and then carry it around to the areas of your home that it is needed for.

What Are Benefits of Backpack Vacuum Cleaners?

As these vacuum cleaners allow you to clean hidden areas and corners you really are able to get rid of a lot of the pollutants and allergens in your home that could lead to health problems for you and your family. Plus they allow you to get the task of removing dust, dirt and mites from your home quickly freeing up time to do more important tasks or spending quality time with your family.

Since they are lightweight vacuums, you can take them to clean the difficult areas that you normally wouldn’t be able to reach using standard vacuum cleaners.

Our Recommendations

So what sorts of backpack vacuum cleaners are available? Below we take a look at some makes and models that are worth considering purchasing.

1.	Pro-Team ProVac – This one is very rugged in design and yet only weighs 9lbs. The design is ergonomic so carrying it on your back won’t prove difficult and as well as being easy to use this backpack vacuum cleaner is very easy to maintain.

Each one is fitted with 3 filters that provide plenty of protection for the motor from dirt and grease. As for noise these don’t produce too much as the motor has been fitted with mufflers so you will still be able to hear someone calling you or the phone ringing when using yours.

2.	Smart Choice Carpet Pro SCBP1 – Fitted with a 2 amp motor that has thermal reset protection and also a single stage motor producing 1440 watts. This one however weighs more than the Pro-Team model but is still lightweight at 10.5lbs. It comes with a bag but the 4 stage advanced filtration system more than prevents any particles from returning back into the air. It is able to carry 8 quarts and although weighing 10.5 pounds it is comfortable to carry as it has an ergonomically designed back support and the shoulder straps are flexible.

3.	Sanitaire SC412 Commercial Backpack Quiet Vacuum Cleaner – If you want one that is able to clean those hard to reach places then this model is absolutely perfect. Just as with all the other backpack vacuum cleaners available today it is lightweight and comes with an ergonomically designed back harness. So this is one that anyone can use without any real difficulties. Plus don’t be concerned about noise levels as again like all other vacuum cleaners of this kind it operates at very low noise levels in fact this one has a 71dB rating to it.

Such cleaners can help to remove pollutants and allergens in the air and so minimize the effect that these have on those with certain health problems.

What You Need to Know About HEPA Vacuum Cleaners?

But you need to be careful as the term HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) is being used for marketing a wide range of vacuum cleaners. This term is often used in ways to us that are misleading so actually choosing HEPA vacuum cleaners that offer high levels of filtration can prove difficult.

When looking at any HEPA vacuum cleaner you need to look closely at the two numbers which appear on them. This is what determines how much of the fine particles within the air are actually removed from it. You need to look for those that come with filtration efficiency of 99.97% and is able to retained particles that measure no more than 0.3 micrometers or microns.

What Are Best HEPA Vacuum Cleaners On The Market?

So what sorts of HEPA Vacuum Cleaners are worth considering buying? Below we take a look at a number of models that are worth thinking about purchasing.

1. Eureka 2999DVZ Uno Bagless Upright

This model has a 12 amp motor and can offer you powerful cleaning right through your home. It also comes with a height adjustment feature so cleaning both bare floors and carpets won’t prove difficult. Plus should you need to clean above floor level then there are several attachments that can be added on to the flexible hose.

Another feature that you won’t often find on vacuum cleaners these days is that this one has a telescopic handle so can be adjusted to suit the height of the person using it. As for the handle this is O Shaped so you find it comfortable to handle no matter what position it is in. As for emptying due to it being bagless this is very easy to do and no more getting dirty hands and so avoiding you coming into contact with pollutants and allergens that could make your health problems worse.

2.	Bosch BSG71360UC Formula Electro Duo

Again has a powerful 12 amp motor but when it comes to HEPA vacuum cleaners this is one of the lightweight vacuum cleaners on the market today weighing just 12lbs. Again can clean the whole house from top to bottom and at the flick of the switch on the handle the power head can be altered so cleaning carpets or bare floors is even easier with this particular model. This one has a telescopic wand rather than a flexible hose to which accessories can be attached. However, it is not bagless but there is an indicator which will tell you when the 1 gallon dust bag is full.

Although it has a bag it HEPA filtration system is such that all airborne allergens are trapped within the bag. This as a result means that only clean air is then released back into a room so helping to ensure that the risks of pollutants and allergens causing health problems for those inside are reduced. Finally when it comes to these types of HEPA vacuum cleaners you will find that it is very mobile because of the 3 x 360 degree caster wheels used.

Welcome to LightweightVacuumCleaners.org. Here you will be able to find comparisons and suppliers of all types of lightweight vacuum cleaners to make your cleaning as efficient as possible.

I started doing this research because my wife had been complaining about how regular vacuum cleaners were difficult to use. They were too heavy to drag around the house. It is especially difficult when cleaning stairs. So I set out my path to find vacuum cleaners that are light in weight, easy to use, and most importantly, can do as a good job as heavier vacuum cleaners.

What I found was quite interesting. Most lightweight vacuums actually have just as much cleaning power as the heavier models. They are lightweight because they don’t have many of the extra features, additions, or attachments. For example, they are not self-propelled so they don’t need a heavy motor. The structure of a lightweight vacuum is also not as bulky as the heavier ones. That also helps to reduce the weight. Therefore, if your main concern is the cleaning power of the vacuum and you can live without all the bells and whistles, then there are plenty of lightweight vacuum cleaners that will satisfy your need.

Here are 3 different models that came up on top of my research based on features, price (value) and consumer reviews. I did pick the first one for my wife but I listed all three so you can see for yourself.

1) Eureka 437AZ Optima Lightweight Upright Vacuum Cleaner

The Eureka 437AZ has a 12-amp motor just like heavier models but only half of the weight (just 11 lbs). At first I was a little hesitant because the looped handle looks weird but my wife actually likes it. It has a soft-grip and very comfortable. It is also adjustable to 8 different positions so people with different height can find the best cleaning angle.

She also likes that you can easily empty the dust cup without touching the filter. Also the vacuum tilts and that makes it easy to get under furniture. The only thing she didn’t like is that it’s quite noisy. But that’s not a big deal as she normally vacuums during the day when kids are gone to schools.

2) Hoover UH30010COM Platinum Lightweight Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner with Canister

The Hoover UH30010COM is quite pricy (close to $300) but it comes with an upright and a canister so you are essentially getting two vacuums. It has a 12-amp motor and weights just under 12 lbs. It uses a self-sealing HEPA bag so if you like the convenience of throwing away the bag instead of emptying the dust cup, this one is for you.

It also comes with quite a few attachments such as bare-floor brush, dusting brush, crevice tool, and telescoping wand. All consumer reviews are quite positive with the Hoover. 70% of reviewers at Amazon.com gave it a 5 star rating. 96% of reviewers gave 3 star ratings and above. I did find one person gave a one star rating because the check bag light on her unit wouldn’t shut off and therefore the vacuum wouldn’t start. Apparently she had a defective unit. Other than that, most are satisfied with its cleaning power, easy of use, and clever design.

3) Dirt Devil 082500 Breeze Bagless Canister Vacuum

The Dirt Devil Breeze is a canister style vacuum. It has a 12-amp motor and an 11-inch carpet nozzle. Unlike some of the lightweight vacuum cleaners, the Breeze’s multiple attachments include two extension wands, a dusting brush, a crevice tool, a tool-clip on the extension wand, and two carrying handles. These tools let you easily clean bare floors and upholstery. The HEPA filter is also a bonus.

The front wheels swivel 360-degree which adds maneuverability to the canister. Because it’s lightweight, you can easily strap it across your shoulder and carry it with you when you clean walls, stairs, curtains, ceilings, etc. This model is one of the best selling lightweight vacuum cleaners at Amazon. With most 5-star ratings from consumers, its low price (under $90) combining with features creates a great value for the buyers. In fact, the Dirt Devil Breeze would have been my first choice if my wife hadn’t insisted on getting an upright model.

Some of the lightweight vacuums that didn’t make the top 3 but are still close runner-ups including Panasonic MC-CG467 and Eureka 409B. I also found good reviews for Dyson DC24 but the $400 price tag just put it out of my price range.
